If you were to look back like 20 or so years ago, it probably happened then too. As for the heat, just a heatwave. For me it's already back down to high 70s and mid 80s again. A week of hot and humid weather, with some storms thrown in doesn't mean OMG GLOBAL WARMING.

And it's 2012, not 2036. So if you have anything that you want to accomplish during your lifetime, ya got 6 years. ;)

You sound like an oil company anti global warming campaign. Honestly, scientists have very little to gain by pronouncing that we are killing the earth. Don't listen to the people who only stand to make a profit.

No, seriously, this summer is clearly proving all around the country the threat of the depletion of our ozone layer. One study suggested that if life continues exactly the way it is currently and nothing is done, Earth will be "unlivable" in 30 years. By "unlivable," it means that the cancer rate will be extremely high and much of the population will be wiped out.

I'm sorry if this post was so pessimistic sounding, but the movie The Day After Tomorrow seems to almost be turning into reality now. I have a friend that has the nerve to say he doesn't believe that global warming exists and he has evidence to disprove it. I'm sorry, but no evidence is going to disprove weather charts and multiple studies to me, ESPECIALLY with how everyone can obviously see how weather patterns are changing.

Another study suggests that the ozone could not completely heal itself until 2068, and that's most likely assuming that it starts healing now, which doesn't seem likely since conditions are only becoming worse.

So... what can we do? The end of the world is as inevitable as www.endoftheworld.com puts it. There's no stopping it, but we can still work together to maximize the lifespan of the Earth, so that there may be generations to come. Personally, if nothing is done, I wouldn't want to put children/grandchildren/etc in this situation.

Alternative fuel sources are pretty much one of the most needed things right now, although there haven't yet been any discovered to replace the ones we use every day. So, do we continue this way until we find one? That question was rhetorical. If you've read this post at all, you'd realize I'm thinking no, but I have no control over everyone, only my humble input. I have no solution to what will become of mass transit if we stop using these fuels. Please understand this post is merely meant to be informative and not some kind of godsend.

Feel as you will on this subject. I just wanted to let everyone that I think society as a whole needs to take action.

You are aware they already have a fuel hybrid that could solve these problems? The problem is that oil companies won't allow this to be used whilst they are getting billions. Its call HHO (hybrid hydrogen oxygen) and it is mixed with petrol and can run a car perfectly. As WATER is the main ingredient, it is cheaper and also very environmentally friendly, as no polluntants are let out.

100 + (37 degrees celsius) is what we usually get in summer. In a summer (slitghy worse) for us, we get temps that average 35 degress (95 degrees fahrenheit). We've had heaps of days over 40 degrees celsius (104 degrees fahrenheit).

Atm its winter, and the weather is ****.

Damn. Either it just goes to show you how ignorant the world is, or that the car isn't perfect. I'd probably go with the former taking your word for it.

@ Ace: Your two key words are FOR ME. And besides that, global warming is an average, not a burst of hot weather. The AVERAGE temperatures go up. My parents remember there also being a lot more snow in the winter, and while it's still cold, there's an apparent change. Oh, and you do realize that 5 years is NOTHING in terms of Earth's life, and not even such a big deal in a human life either. And besides that as I said, we're constantly increasing the rate at which we're putting it into the air. So in other words, no. Not a "week of hot and humid weather and OMG GLOBAL WARMING," it's more of a reminder.

Also, wtf is with this meteor deal!? I'm not ready to die in 6 years. :(

Just some random trivia from Wiki's 2012 page.

December 21 - The Mayan Calendar reaches the end of its Great Cycle at 11:11 universal time, the solstice. The Great Cycle is 5,125 years long, and began in 3114 BC. For the Mayans, the end of the cycle symbolised a rebirth into a new era.

Apocalypticism/Spiritual transformation

The following predictions are theories based upon sources of varying origin and credibility. Many of these theories rely upon conjecture, and should therefore not be considered to be facts.

    * The Olduvai cliff will begin and permanent blackouts will occur worldwide, according to "The Peak of World Oil Production and the Road To The Olduvai Gorge" by Richard C. Duncan.
    * The Prophecy of the Popes, attributed to Saint Malachy, speculated that Pope Benedict XVI would reign during the beginning of the tribulation of which Jesus spoke, and sometime later a future pope described in the prophecy as "Peter the Roman", the last in this prophetic list, would appear, bringing as a result the destruction of the city of Rome and the Last Judgement. [5].
    * Terence McKenna's Novelty Theory, based on a mathematical interpretation of human events, predicts a point of singularity in which humankind will go through a great shift in consciousness.
    * According to the 1997 book The Bible Code, according to certain algorithms of the Bible code a meteor, asteroid or comet will collide with the Earth. Some believe this means the world will end. It may also be destroyed according to another code found. This event was supposedly prophesized by John the Evangelist as Wormwood in the Book of Revelation.
    * Many interpret the ending of the Long Count of the Mayan Calendar on December 21, 2012 to mean a global spiritual transformation, or shift in consciousness.

Which is what the whole "oh noes, apocalypse" is all about.

Umm, CoasterKrazy, no offense, but are you or your parents hippies?

No offense, but just because it's hot, doesn't mean global warming is coming, it's been this hot before, and it will be this hot again, it's called a heat wave, deal with it.  And lets face it, there is no way to prove the ozone layer is depleating, no way at all, you can't see it.

And yes, a new fuel source has already been invented, and ford and most other car companies have already allied themselves with the company that produces the fuel. Chicago for instance has already pledged to switch their taxis from gas cars to cars that use this new fuel.

It's called Bioethanol, or Cellulosic Ethanol. It's carbon neutral so it doesn't produce the gasses you're so worried about. And it's cheap and effective. (I suggest buying some stock in any companys that make this stuff since a line of Bioethanol cars is coming out in 07)

Back on topic.

Holy freaking crap it was hot this week!
I'm just glad it's started to cool down here in Michigan.

I live in Illinois. The weather really changed here. IT'S WIERD. We had snow in May, we had no snow and only ice in winter, up here it's either hot and humid or we have an unexpected 60 mph storm come through.

I miss the "snow in winter" "kinda hot in summer" weather.

The earth might fix itself but it'll probably take longer since earth didn't have cars millions of years ago. That's just my thought.

There were dinosaurs millions of years ago, though. o.o People who do believe in this global warming crap also say that methane from cows is almost becoming a greater threat than cars. (LAWL) And if this is the case, then dinosaur feces would've had a HUGE contribution to destroying the earth's ozone back then. So unless the dinosaurs were wiped out by methane, I think we're safe. :p

And this is the first thing that comes up on google when I searched 2012. We shall all become enlightened! :O

Well, that was technological. This one was predicted by an ancient race who inexplicably disappeared without a trace for no reason.
However, you're more than likely correct.

What are they gonna do, build robots that can talk?

Anyway, I hope it IS the end of the world. It would look awesome, like all those movies you see on apocalyptic disaster, except with better effects!
