Dragoon came out damn near the same time as FF7. It's better.

FFVII sucked huge quantities of male genitalia. So sure, it had 3D graphics, but it's still an insult to the Final Fantasy series. Like, the story is the main point. We have our generic hero with his big cliché sword, who knows nothing about his cliché past and for some reason goes on a big-*** quest to fight some effeminate guy with a big sword who wants to destroy the world for some random reason involving a meteor. Now, quite a lot of people are going to say "omg the story goes deeper than that noob". Well of course it would, but who really wants to spend the entire game analysing the storyline to find out everything about it?

Then there's the swords. Cloud, who has no muscle whatsoever, can still lift a 200-pound sword, and Sephiroth can quite easily swing around a 10-foot blade with perfect accuracy. Beats me why he ever needed to get the freaking meteor when he could probably have just exploded the world with a sneeze anyway.

Clones. Ah, good old clones. What? Cloud's a clone! Holy crap! I never would have guessed! What?! Sephiroth is too?!?! Holy f*ck!

So yeah, the storyline is horseshit. What else is there?

(I'd just like to mention here that the graphics, which are really the only thing which make the game popular, are also bad. Cloud looks like an egg-timer.)

The Materia system is supposed to be "customizable". Great, I can do whatever I want with my characters! Goes a bit too far though. For instance, why is Barret a much more ideal mage than Aeris? Why are some of Cloud's Limit Breaks less damaging than his regular attacks? Why can Cait Sith not do anything?

Random effing battles every three steps!

Also, I do not see the deal with Sephiroth killing Aeris. It's supposed to be the most emotional moment in the game. And yet it fails. Spectacularly. In fact it's quite funny. Least convincing death sequence ever. When Tellah died in FFIV, that was emotional, because he actually had some depth.

And Leo in FFVI. He owned.

The thing that gets me about it is that people say it has "emotion and depth". No it doesn't. It is the least interesting, least exciting, least original and least fun game ever.

On the other hand, FFVIII was awesome. That is an RPG done right.

Breath of Fire III owns too. It's got depth, an original storyline, good characters, and it's still fun. And it has Rei, the single-handedly most pwnsome RPG character ever.

I like FFVII.  sure cloud looks like he just walked outta runescape, but whatever, sure he comes off a bit cliche at first, but it shows that he's different than he appears.  sure sephiroth is scary with a 10 foot sword, but it atleast makes his weapon original, and my brother does say he could blow up the world with a sneeze.  and FFVII, with how the monsters are, actually makes fighting monsters every three steps funner than alot of games.  and cloud is a clone?  and sephiroth is?  I didn't get that far.  I only got to.........the ancient temple I think......  also, Tellah's death was hardly dramatic at all because it seemed in that game everyone was dying left and right.  it became a sort of, "eh, the old guy's dead, wha'ever, we'll say it was a natural death."  think.  yang seemed to die, whats-her-head seemed to get killed by leviathan, kain or whatever the ninja was named killed his parents, the dragoon dude  seemed to go evil left and right to the point where he can just be qualified as dead inside.  oh, and the whole cecil and golbez being the only two lunarians left and they're brothers, was just stupid.  that's like the case with namako from ludiyan fantasy and his brother, but that was actually pulled off well.  FFII or whichever one that was (I played it on the SNES and it was called FFII there) wasn't that good.  final fantasy only gets any real worth in seven, even if it everyone's shoulders are huge, wrists are fat and elbows are twigs.  FFVII, I would have to say so far:

Gameplay 9
Sound 10
Graphics 7 (for its time duh)
Story 8.5

all and all, FFVII was a 9
very good game
IMO FFII (or whatever the one with cecil is)

gameplay 8
Sound 7
graphics 6 (not that great *cough*bluelagoon*cough*)
Story 5

there you have it 6.5 in my opinion.

wow, his sword looks kinda small there.  that doesn't look 200 pounds...  also, the secret to how powerful they all were was that they all looked good.  barret looked very original in the big iron chest plate thing and the jacket with the arm gun, vincent looked vampire-esque in his cloak, aeris/aerith looked good in her dress, tifa.....was kick ___, her looks don't matter much 'till AC, cait-sith... WAS A FRIKKIN CAT!  no game had that!  sephiroth in his scary clothes and villainous hair, and cloud in his sleeveless shirt and baggy pants, especially with the hair.  lol, his hair rox.

You know what pisses me off? People who say FF7 was cliche because Cloud had an oversized sword.

FF7 INVENTED THE ****ing CLICHE. It was cliche because everyone else saw how great FF7 did and wanted an oversized sword too. That's like saying Super Mario Bros. for NES is cliche because it has a hero that jumps on his enemies and eats mushrooms to grow bigger.

PS: I'm 85% sure Cloud and Sephiroth are not clones. Cloud, at most, was injected with Jenova cells after the Nibelheim incident, hence why he was called to the Reunion, and Sephiroth, at most, used a clone to do his evil bidding because he was kinda frozen for the first half of the game.

Well, considering the only way to find out everything about a storyline is to play through the game and, y'know, pay attention, everyone does.

I hated FF8. The whole game and storyline slowed to a crawl halfway through, and the rest of the game was basically wandering around with a storyline moment every couple of hours. Not to mention that the SeeD system was utterly ridiculous.

No offence, but your logic here is kind of bizzare. O.o

I mean sure, regular battles are fun, but when the monsters aren't really that varied (I recall some dungeons only had three or four different monsters), it does get repetitive. It's really a matter of personal preference, but I felt like FFVII was just the wrong side of the random battle line.

Well, it is made of solid steel (Which is heavier than it looks, might I add), and it's nearly the size of his body. Maybe 200 pounds was an exaggeration, but you get my point. Look at his arms. Look at them. Nobody with puny girl arms like that could skilfully use a sword that size.

And really, have you ever tried using a long piece of wood as a sword? Anything over 6 feet long starts becoming difficult to control. Past that it's very awkward indeed. Sephiroth in real life would be a complete nublet.
