Skill Idea

After lots and lots of boring work, I'm almost done with the Item Menu and the Equip Menu. You should already have a general idea of what those look like.

To keep me from getting bored, I decided to change my skill system. It was basically a rip-off of FF6's Esper system. Now it's a rip-off of FF12. :| I'll need some extra originality soon. I just wanted to show something new.

The screen and overall look of it is far from done. Here's what it looks like so far.



There are 12 Grids that are basically classes, one for each Esper. Each space has it's own Stat Boosts, Skills, Magic, Link Attacks, and Defense Links. The idea is to unlock as many squares as you can.

Being able to see the backround behind it usually means it's unlocked. If you see one of those Crystal Things, that means that there is Magic there. If it's transparent, you'll need the matching stone to unlock that kind of Magic.

In a way, it plays like Minesweeper. If you seem a little lost trying to plan how to build your character, remember this. If you just want the magic, try to think of the Zodiac sign and follow that.



If you want the Stat Boosts, and the Extra stuff to back up the class, try to follow the Outside of it.

How's the menu? And if not that, do you like the idea? It's a rainy day so I don't think I'm going anywhere. :(

It just kind of ended up looking like FF12 on accident. I was playing around with chipsets, and how to make them relate to Outer Space somehow.

I don't blame you for being confused. If it gets too confusing, I might just drop the idea. Anyone else confused?

Been awhile sense I posted anything of worth here.

I've been thinking about my game's battle system, and after some though, I concluded that, though it's fun at the moment, I don't believe that it will remain fun for long in the game. I'm positive that after the first few areas, people will find the battles repeative and annoying + lacking in difference. Hence, I've been coding a new battle system.

Not much to show yet. I've got movement, dashing, backflipping, attacking animations, getting hurt effects + animations, guarding effects + animations, charged attacks, and magic animation. I've also made a few move active things, such as if you press 'Shift' various times while charging up, it could result in more power or a completly different attack all together.

Mainly, I wanted to see if you guys like the HUD. There are a max of three players at a time, and the fourth box at the end is your player information panel. That panel will show your status, be you dead, poisoned, silenced, ect.

The three bars, as labled, are Health, Mana, and Fury. Fury is used for charge attacks and various melee attacks. Health is duh. Mana is for magic.

The box labled Health, Mana, and Fury will show a % of what's left. If you have 50% of your health left, then it will show half the bar and a 50 where the health box is.

Faces are Roco recolors and tempary. I'll probally recolor the ToDN3 sprites after I get everything coded, then recolor the face to match. If you havn't noticed, Tales Of sprites are pretty hard to recolor.

I think you should make that another thing in the game, so you could have the normal battle and that. Of course this will amke for another battle demo! OOHYAH!

I don't really like the HUD, but that's just me. I thinks it's the gradients with those thin, black letters. Did you design it yourself though? If so, that's pretty nice.

Are you still keeping your old one with this as a Mini-Game? Or something else (getting rid of your old one, having this one equal the other,). Coding a battle system like that is cool. It reminds me of Valkyrie Profile or a Fighting Game.

To if I made it or not: Yes, this is the first HUD that I've ever made that I actually like enough to use in this game. The other HUD was made by ZKX.

I was planning on these being the main battles. I might keep the old battles to use in a tactics mini-game or something, because it's already coded and it would be a waste to remove them, but other then that, I'll probally have these be the new battles.

BTW, if anyone has some recolored or rare Tales Of spirtes or sheets, PM me them please.

Well, if you want to do recolors for me, I'll gladly let you. However, I don't want you to do it unless you want to. I'd feel bad giving you something to do that I can do myself, just because I don't wanna take the time to do it.

Well, as I'm sure you've figured out, my games go nowhere, I just wanna make stuff for em. Just shoot me a pm with the sprites and what you want the colors to be (As MSN is being bitchy) and I can do em.
