My first impression is that they beefed up Fox and Falco. Link's shield isn't OMFG awesome like it used to be... doesn't deflect everything, but he can spam his bow way faster now. Most people seem to lack the decent jumps that they used to have. They made Marth's side-B a lot easier to use, but downgraded his B attack.

Impression on the new characters that I've played:

Zero Suit - Haven't used enough to see, but she's basically as durable and fast as Zelda with less damaging attacks and longer reach.
Ike - Pretty good. He's got his swift attacks and his powerhouse attacks. For as slow as he is he's not very durable, but he is by far the most powerful character IMO. His up smash hits in front of him, behind him, and above... it's my favorite move.
Lucario - Amazing. The fact that he gets stronger as he is damaged makes him perfect for me. Good reach with B attacks and great speed.
Lucas - While, he's not a great character, his smashes are extremely powerful and his B skills are well rounded. He's different enough from Ness to be used in a different way, especially with his way-more-useful Up-B.
Pokemon Trainer - Eh.... Squirtle is pretty much the only good one. Ivysaur is a great grab-spammer, but it's reach and B-skills are really lacking. Charizard isn't nearly as hardy as he should be, though he does get several jumps and a Up-B that actually goes UP (unlike bowser's). Squirtle has great smashes and some useful B-skils.... I just wish his normal B did some damage.

Those are pretty much all I've played of the new characters.

So far, I'm a little disappointed. No, it's not like they promised the sky and delivered something lesser, but it's just not as fun as I hoped. The controls feel kind of chunkier and the jumps seem like you have to force them to go more than a foot or two into the air. It's harder than it should be to make your characters dash and stop, and the game's not as responsive to directions in relations to moves. It's easier to grab items, but you have to be more precise about how you grab them, since you push them around more than before and if you're anywhere other than behind and facing them, you won't grab them (vs. the standing on them or slightly in front and facing away but still grabbing from Melee). Some new characters seem underwhelming in either their attacks' reaches and damage or in their speed and response times. Some old characters also seem to have suffered a little from the slowdown. It's still fun, and it's still worth every penny, but some of the changes have left me disappointed.

Lucas is the coolest thing this game has going for it as far as I've gotten. Ike's pretty neat, too, if a little slow. Control-wise, Melee was better because everything seemed to feel right, but everything else is superior here. Marth isn't a tourney fag anymore, but he's still quite useful. Shiek seems... Worthless now. Huge failure, and quite a shame.

Oh, and Melee's almost non-existent load times have spoiled me. This game will take a few seconds to load. And it likes to load pretty often.

I kinda have to agree with you there, Archem, but only a little. I really enjoyed the game thus far, and having only scratched the surface, will probably come to like it even more.
Granted, the controls are slightly different, but some characters feel the changes more than others. I had a hard time controlling DK, Fox and Meta-Knight (although the last one is because of my lack of skill with him), but others, like Bowser, Link and Samus, seem to be either unaffected or even better (in the case of Bowser; I found him much easier to control).
But these changes, I think, don't take much away from the game. It really feels like some change has been made, that SSBB isn't a half-assed copy of SSBM with concerns to the characters, and it takes a little more skill to master them. In essence, Brawl really is a new game. It all depends on what you're used to, I guess.
I didn't find much trouble with the items, however, that's obviously a personal issue more than anything. Item catching is definitely easier (I love Diddy's running attack: it catches items on the way).
The jumps seem a little more forced, but this change is on everyone, not just a couple of characters, which evens things out. Besides, it HAS been a while since I played Melee... maybe I just don't remember how it used to be. :P In regards to movement, all I can say is, Get used to it :P
In the end, I still haven't had a taste of all this game has to offer. But I give it a solid thumbs up for now. Great game that definitely dishes out fun and [STRIKE]violence[/STRIKE] originality in spades.

Now, my character reviews:
Bowser is mean in this one. Flying Slam=friend. Bowser Bomb=friend. Giga Bowser=friend (a damn ugly one though). I love this guy.
Samus seems to have been a little weighed down in this one, but her attacks are a little faster. Zero Suit is fast and moderately strong, but easy to throw away :(
Ike, simply put, is destructive in the hands of a skilled player. Slow, yet powerful. Remember, that IS a two-handed sword he's wielding with one hand.
Wario is great. Sort of like Mario, a little stronger, way unorthodox.
The Trainer is good. Using all three Pokémon efficiently takes some skill to master though.
Pit is an easy to use character (or so I found). Strong yet fast. And the Mirror Shield is great :P
Meta-Knight is pretty hard to use, but in the hands of a skilled player, is lethal. That Final Smash hurts. A lot.
Diddy Kong is great. With a peanut gun, a jetpack and a dash attack that catches items along the way, what more could you want? Seriously though, he's not the hardiest of individuals :|
And Sonic... let's just say I don't like him a lot right now. He works best on open stages, but his up special is very effective :) I haven't experimented with him much.

My future faves: Ganondorf and ROB. Oh yeah...

Eh, I'm a bit underwhelmed. It seems like they changed very little of the returning characters. Peach, my main, seems a little easier to use but it's honestly very minor tweaks. The whole game feels like little more than expansion pack. They added some characters, but removed some characters, and I haven't really fallen in love with any of the new guys.

Assist tropies are pretty much Pokemon balls. Actually, scratch that, Pokemon seem more useful on the whole.

Smash balls are really annoying to try to get since it seems the entire match stops whenever one appears as all the players swing wildly at the stupid randomly-moving thing. Not to mention the fact that the smash ball attacks are WILDLY disproporisionate in strength. A lot of characters have smash ball moves that are avoidable by just walking away, but then you have some like Pit's and Lucas's that pretty much seem to kill every other player on the screen every time. Yeah.

Subspace emissary seemed like too much jerking around. I only got through a few fights, but a couple of them were just "jump up five platforms. Nope, no enemies. There's the exit! Congrats!" It feels sort of like a slower version of the adventure mode from melee.

I was at a party Saturday night that was playing Rock Band until midnight when someone went to pick up a preorder copy of Smash. We played that for about an hour and then went back to Rock Band. Brawl just feels too much like melee with a couple of characters nobody knows how to use. I don't think it deserves the massive "best game ever" hype its been giving. It's cool, but the old stuff is still old and most of the new stuff just doesn't add that much.

Hence the beef: Character roster sucks. its been said over and over.

But anyway, i played almost all day yesterday and I got the hang of it. Online Matches are awesome (although right now "with anyone" is currently under maintaince due to extreme numbers of connections, but "wuith friends" is A-O-K).

My impression is that, it looks too much like melee but feels a lot more different than melee.

Now I demand it: FRIENDLIES

At least you can change the controls... NO MORE GOD DAMN TAP JUMP **** YES!

Also, SSE wasn't meant to be the end-all adventure mode. I'd consider it more like an introduction to the characters... The cutscenes are fuckwin, though.

I agree with the ability to omit tap jump. Now I can use upward attacks! Woot!

Oddly enough, I like button jump more than tap jump.
Really, playing through SSE helped me so much with getting used to it.

Also, anyone playing lower than hard mode is a pussy.

Well I think that I will be rather prepared when the game comes out thanks to all these videos on the net and your comments.

But the things I've noticed is:

You can tell that HAL did this game; SSE looks just like a kirby game.

Some characters was changed for the better while some got more original attacks/movesets(Falco and Luigi).

Ike seems really godamn strong.

Jigglypuff needs a hug.

And it's more than an expansion pack. The two latest Halo has merely been like expansion packs compared to SS64->Melee->Brawl.

Okay, I've gotten Sonic now..

He is fast.

****ing crazy fast.

Like, go all the way across Melee Final Destination in 1.5 seconds fast. I don't think most heavies outside of Bowser would be able to keep up with him, but his attacks are weak overall.
