Why did Watchmen get some bad reviews?
« on: August 31, 2009, 12:52:13 AM »
I'm such a movie critic and I just watched it (The director's cut) and was completely blown away. Every last intricate detail was perfect, it
resembled the graphic novel with unrivalled precision. The acting was fantastic, the mood was gripping and stagnant, and
the characterization was brilliant. It gave you a deep insight into the characters' pasts and how they shared their relationships.
It was directed so stylishly. From the moment I watched it right up until the end, I was grabbing my seat wondering how things were going to
pan out.

Anyone else seen it? Anyone else wanted to see it and decided not to because of the mixed reviews? I can't believe someone would call it
garbage. It was so effing good. I can't even conjure up the words to describe the level of awesomeness that this film blasted in my face.

It was horrific, gruesome and bitterly cruel, with some very dark humour, but I loved every second of it.

Anyway, discuss or WATCH IT! I THOROUGHLY RECOMMEND THIS FILM! 5 STARS!

I thought it was deep and very good. A nice long movie with good music and plot. But hen again I've never read the Graphic Novels.

Haven't seen the movie yet, and am in the middle of the comics.

It could have been that uncomfortable...um..."love scene" between Nite Owl II and Silk Spectre II...???

Me personally? I loved the movie, because I loved the graphic novel...which would explain the Rorschach tattoo I have. It was a remarkably accurate adaptation. I couldn't put down the book when I was reading it, and I didn't want to miss any part of the movie. I guess you could say that there were a couple of things that the mass public would have difficulty absorbing, particularly if they weren't exposed to the background expressed in the book. I think it touches a lot on humanity's dark side, and the things that we're all susceptible to. It has an applicable message. But the problem for many people was that it was ironically too loyal to the source material, so much so that it alienated the general public. And then there's that queasy sex scene. And I swear, when I saw it in theaters, there were 20-something year old guys squirming and giggling every time there was a scene with certain massively exposed glowing blue junk. It got a lot of heat for being too showy too. But I think when it comes down to it, the movie had the tendency to make a lot of people uncomfortable.

It kinda surprises me that there is so much blue penis (talk) because there hasn't been all that much in the comic so far.
And every time there has been, it's been from a distance.

Oh man. Everywhere in the movie. EVERYWHERE I SAY.

It was an okayish movie. I don't regret the ticket price, but I don't really feel compelled to see it again.

Nah, not so much in the comic, and not really in the movie either, if you really think about it. I thought so the first time I saw it, but when I watched it on DVD it was pretty much like whatever, not apparant at all, and not nearly as frequent as it initially seemed.

The watchmen movie took a lot of stuff very directly from the comic, which is both good and bad. I mean, I first watched the movie, then decided to read a bit of the graphic novel. And very quickly, I began to realize that the two coincided in appearance and storyline very much. There were two main differences I noticed, though:

1. Many of the side stories involving minor characters, such as the newspaper salesman and psychiatrist were left out in the movie. That's a real shame, because they actually made for some very nice side-characters.
2. In the movie, Adrian seems to be completely cold-hearted and comes off as a real big jerk. When I read the comic, he seemed to be a lot more humane, which made his views and goals actually something you could relate to a bit.

I loved the movie, but Mr. Manhattan ruined it for me, seriously there was no need for so much damn blue penis.

squid

also: poorly utilized soundtrack.
It was done as good as it could have been. I loved it, because it was my favorite book ever, and still is.
But it should NEVER have been made into a film.

I'd say the movie's ending was actually more believable than the comic's.  I find it hard to make giant squids in my basement AM I RIGHT.

I admit that "epic" scenes in moves with explosions and CGI kind of bore me. But there were so many quality scenes
like the Rorschach prison and paedo scenes. Oh my. The intro was fantastic. So well made. It was really dark. The only
bits I didn't find as exciting were the ship scenes and the burning building scenes.

I have to say though that Rorschach is my absolute favorite character. I loved the line when he was in prison "I'm not stuck in here with you, your stuck in here with me!" And throws the vat of burning oil into the guys face. Definately awesome.
