Guilty Pleasures
« on: July 21, 2011, 11:11:21 AM »
My name is Joe, and I recently became addicted to Sailor Moon.

Anyone else have guilty pleasures that are a little odd?  Please, no "fantasies". Thank you.

I like getting ice and holding it really tight until it melts. The unbearable coldness feels kind of nice.

EDIT: I'm weird.

Sailor Moon? To be honest, my memory fails me - I remember watching that, but other than the image of some girls dressed in crazy clothes (like every other anime), I can't really remember anything about what it was about.

Probably demons and teenage issues with boys. Like all anime.

I suppose mine can be anything from coding stuff that I'll never use to creating characters in games such as Tekken, Soul calibur ect.

My guilty pleasure? See avatar. Though I don't feel all that guilty over it. Maybe I've gotten to the age where I just don't give a frick what people think of my hobbies.

As for Sailor Moon, I had a girlfriend in high school that was completely into it, and we'd watch episodes. It was repetative and formulaic. The underlying plot was ALMOST halfway decent, if only because it broke up the normal episode routine of character has problem > evil entity attempts to capitalize on problem > character comes to term with their problem > good guys win. But even the deviations to that almost entirely boiled down to "the power of friendship and love is greater than all other powers in the universe"... which I found out later is pretty much an anime standard, but was still unsatisfying to watch.

I'm not THAT picky, but it felt like I was watching the same episode 8 times, have a mid-season event, another 8, finale episodes. All the recycled animation from transformations and attacks was pretty lame too.

I admit it!

I love cute plushies. Had I the money, I'd probably have a few scattered around the house.

Like this cute little bat called Midnight that I bought:

I cannot resist, they are too cute!

And oh my God, I deed this one!

I don't know what to do!

I don't know what to do!

Get some fabric, a needle and some thread. Start sewing for great success. Most cases tons cheaper. Like the Bidoof I did earlier this year.

Oh wait... That's another guilty pleasure. I'm a freaking Demolition Man - I like to work with textiles.

I watch a LOT of anime, and I actually enjoy quite a few "bad" ones, like:

Speed Racer (Not that new crap, the 1960's anime which was violent as hell)
GoLion
Dairugger XV
Albegas
Saber Rider
Sailor Moon (Don't. ****ing. Judge me.)
Inuyasha
etc.

Problem is... I'm not good at this. Oh, sure, I have not actually tried. But I don't need to, I just know it. But then again, trying would actually make me get better at this. But I lack the patience. Maybe I could try this at some point... but I probably will just end up buying them. Might be less expansive, but if you compare the time it would take me to make something and the money I'd make with a job in the same amount of time... it's indirectly less expansive to buy them. Yes I calculate things strangely.

Though I must admit... I'd like to make my own custom cute plushy.

I also listen to musics which would raise a few questions regarding my true sexual orientation. As if the plushies were not enough.
Though this isn't exactly a "guilty pleasure" but anyway. Plushies, yeah.

Guilty pleasures? I've got a bunch of them...and some of them are really embarrassing.

If you must know, I get an urge to play Quest 64 every now and then. Yes, Quest 64...considered by some to be the worst RPG ever. And as an RPG, it is pretty bad...but the combat is kind of fun. And the ending of the game is so terrible that it's actually...hilarious, in a way. If it were a film, it would totally be MST3K-worthy.

I never really got into Sailor Moon, even though I've watched the first few seasons. Another guilty pleasure of mine is shoujo-ish anime, though. Wait, wait, hold the phone! Not all shoujo anime. Most of it is pretty crappy, especially nowadays. I do really, really enjoy Cardcaptor Sakura, though. Perhaps more than I should. I love little girls...they make me feel so good. Wait, what?

Anyway, I'll stop embarrassing myself for now... >.>

For some reason, I find Axis Powers Hetalia extremely amusing.  I also used to read and watch Inu Yasha, until I decided it was never going to end.

Musicals. Blame Actor Cousin who works with Alliance Theater/friend convinced me to see Phantom of the Opera/Glee. Between London and St. Louis I've seen Wicked (very cool), Memphis, Billy Elliot, Thriller Live, and Chicago.

-also A Very Potter Musical/Sequel is the best thing ever.

I Looooooove musicals.  Every summer I am in a teen workshop and we do some pretty awesome musicals.  (Godspell, 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Drowsy Chaperone) Although, I had to play in the pit orchestra for the last one.  I also did some in High school.  Beauty in the Beast, Cinderella, Bye Bye Birdie, Fiddler on the Roof and the Pajama Game.  I've only see the tour for Wicked in Pittsburgh, and I saw a local theatre do the King and I.  I also saw a high school do Joseph and His Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

Spelling Bee is a fun musical because it adds guest spellers in the mix from the audience. ;)
