Mayoral Chaingame: Poll (steampunk added as choice)
« on: April 20, 2009, 07:09:05 AM »
Greetings Charas.
Your mayor is now keeping his first promise:
To start and manage a chaingame.

But I will let you decide now. Knowing what kind of game you want is also a great way of seeing how many people are interested in this. We'll start when enough time have passed.
Here are the ideas so far:

Charas Glorious History game:
Skipp ahead to the Intro people, this is rambling.

well, the story would be rather fictional

It's about Alex being the hier to the throne of Charas, an incredible powerful country
But he doesn't want to be king, he wants to live his life so when his father dies he leaves the castle to like like a civilian
And becomes a harp-ist
And meanwhile [ADMIN] is having a hard time keeping charas together because of the sudden troll invasion from a dark lord called raffles

who would [ADMIN] be then?
He's the king's second hand

So when Alex went missing he took control
But Carmen and Ghostclown,
two superior generals see low at Osmoses work as the trolls keep coming back and
the people are somewhat starting an uproar.
So they lock [ADMIN] up and start "cleansing" the street of the "defilers" that is,
trolls and those immigrants (trolls and newbies who doesn't stick to the rules)

So far i figured that the game starts when one of the current admins set out in a search for Alex
to restore order in Charas
And he does find him, but Alex doesn't want the power, nor does he want the fame.
He just wants to live a simple life as a harpist
So the admin decides to accompany Alex and behind his back makes sure that he sees
all the trouble and suffering as well as corruption in the current management
So Alex becomes troubled after seeing how ruthless the two leaders are controlling charas
and decides to take back the throne.

But Carmen and ghost clown decline his royal blood and calls him a fraud
So the first part of the game would be fighting to get the power over Charas back

and after you regain your power, you free the [ADMIN]
And kick Carmen and ghostclown into jail/banish them from the land
But some time later(after some lame movie)

Intro : Alex's resignation
:::::::::::::::::::::::
Alex decides to leave his home after his father's death. he doesn't want the responsibility on his shoulders.
He let his hair grow and sell all his royal clothing and accessories to live a normal life - like a harpist.
During his absence, the Kings counsellor [ADMIN] takes control over the country explaining that Alex is too ill at the moment to rule,
hoping that he will one day return.
But Alex enjoys the country his father created and the people within.
One day, [ADMIN]'s generals Ghostclown and Carmen are given the right of their own royal guards to guard the streets after a troll invasion.
They do so with great success, but [ADMIN] could never guess how suspicious and paranoid their minds are.
But he sends one of his moderators to search for Alex when he finds out, afraid that they will abuse their powers.

The moderator succeeds in finding Alex and tries to confront him coming back to regain his place.
Alex declines and tell him that a life as a harpist is all he could ever dream of.
The moderator stays at Alex's side in order to ensure that he will one day return.

But one day, the two generals appear in town, they've heard rumours about trolls in the area and question the citizens.
After finding out that one of the trolls was found in the basement of the pub, Ghost clown orders it to be burnt.
And they deem the citizens as heretics when they try to stop the fire. The citizens explain that the pub is an important place.
But the generals decides that they are trying to protect the trolls. And so, all the citizens who tries to stop it was cut down in place
while the others were sent to the prison - Junkbin.

Part 1: The iron fist
:::::::::::::::::::::::
Carmen and Ghost clown are tired of trolls and call for immediate action.
[ADMIN] on the other hand stick to the old king's ways: to fight to the last man standing in case someone is threatening them,
but never for gain.
Ghost clown and Carmen starts to notice small amounts of trolls in the streets and also claim that all immigrants to charas are working
for the trolls.
[ADMIN] tries to talk sense into them but Ghost clown and Karmen decides that he to is a follower of the trolls and lock him up
in the sanctuary.
Alex and his party finds out after some time and Charas is being sent into a hopeless war against the trolls.
The party decides that they must quickly calm the country or all will be lost.
They appear in public and Alex claims right to the throne. But the two generals says that he is another agent of the trolls
and that the real Alex is dead.
They send out their troops to take care of the uprising in the country and therefore Alex is able to halt the war.

In the end, Alex is able to prove his blood by entering the sanctuary, a place only reachable by admins, moderators and those of royal blood.
They try to convince carmen and Ghostclown to end their foolishness but in vain.
The two explains that what they do is for the greater good of the world. And that sacrifices must be made.
Alex cannot let his country end that way and decides to fight his throne back.

After the fight, you release [ADMIN] from his prison and make him talk sense into the people as Ghost clown and Karmen
are being sent into court for high-treason.

Charas prospers.
:::::::::::::::::::::::

Part 2: The Trolls and Lord Raffles
:::::::::::::::::::::::
The Trolls invade once more, this time led by their leader: Lord Raffles.

Alex and his party needs to travel throughout Charas and fight the trolls and their spawn back to Junkbin.
When they succeed, Raffles are able to pass through the border and heads for the castle. But the castle doors
won't open for trolls. In rage he begin to tear the doors down while using his powers to infect people
with a virus that turns them into trolls.

Alex and his admins decide that they must save the remaining people and opens the Sanctuary for the people.
People are gathered there to avoid Raffle's evil while Alex and his party starts to prepare for a tough battle.

They leave the sanctuary and goes to the castle where the gates have been breached. They fight through a horde
of trolls and defeats Raffles.
The troll invasion ends at their leaders death and all infected return to normal.
(insert cheesy movie)
:::::::::::::::::::::::

Part 3: The misguided moderator
:::::::::::::::::::::::
Warxe is a moderator but also a hard working citizen who 's loaded with too much work.
The troll invasion hits hard on him as he lose his wife during the invasion, something that he had the
power to do but couldn't do it.
In rage and sorrow  Warxe vaporizes a part of the country with his powers, it wasn't supposed to happen but the entire area of
Allofall was destroyed in a second as his emotions broke out. In fear, sorrow and anger he then goes underground to avoid capture.

The party needs to fight through the ruins of AllofAll in order to find Warxe and strip him of his moderator powers
that prevents him from being banned.

After warxe is dealt with, Charas prosper even more.(another lame movie)
:::::::::::::::::::::::

Part 4: The usurper
:::::::::::::::::::::::
Charasman, an ordinary member is suddenly starting to act weird, without anyone's notice he suddenly start
to recruit people for the troll country. The moderators are too slow and doesn't have the time to react before another
troll invasion begun. Charasman is now the host of the Troll entity called Lord Raffles.
Charasman return to the country of trolls to rise his army once again but Alex and his party decides that it is time to stop them
before they are able to rise to power.

The party fight their way throughout the troll country and attack the troll stronghold with a full force of members defeating the trolls
once and for all.
Charas prospers even more.
:::::::::::::::::::::::

Part 5: The bots
:::::::::::::::::::::::
 And then comes the horror.

Bots, creatures stripped of all emotions who only want to spread the words of their god. Spamminator.
They begin to show up in charas, turning their speakers on and shouting out their prophecies.
The bots who barely feel cannot be removed by ordinary guards since they lack the moral guilt.
The mods must fight them off and into the junk bin.

Charas keep fighting the bots until a moderator comes up with the idea to lift charas above the ground, making it a flying island.
Alex agrees to this idea and they work hard on the machine while fighting off more bots.
But the bots enters cahras in great numbers when the finishing stages of the machine is done, they apparently found out about the plan and
tries to take charas as their own.
The party must fend of the bots while ensuring that none meddles with the machinery.

Charas lift into the sky, removing themselves from the horror of trolls and bots.

The end.
::::::::::::::::::::::::::

I'll add a cast of Admin/moderators from which you choose who should go after Alex.
And then once you got the Admin/mod& Alex party you come to a village where you can recruit a cast of members
Optional:
difficult modes. Normal = choose from a list of admins, hard = pick a mod. Powers = the same, stats would vary.

Characters
::::::::::::::::::::::::::
The game's characters will be loosely based on the members of Charas.
Admins, moderators and members from the different "eras" will be available at their time. Meaning that members like Jet
won't be available until the last part.

At the beginning of the game you'll choose the moderator to find Alex, after each "charas prospers"
you can tell the moderator/admin to stay in the castle and recruit a new one.

The party will consist of Alex, a Mod/admin and then two members.Optionally: An admin, moderator and two members. If you decide to
leave Alex... But who would?

I need to find out who members were most active during these periods as well as the mods, admins currently in charge at the time.

::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Charas is really prosperous
::::::::::::::::::::::::::
I figured that people like customization. so! For every time a part is completed, you will be able to choose one building to be built.
And also what architect you'd like to pay for the job of strengthen the city.
So each part of charas will grow for each part, and one extra (special) building will appear for each part.

I'm thinking 3 different architects, will save me from some boring programming.

::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Cameos
::::::::::::::::::::::::::

How could anyone NOT expect cameos in a game about charas?
There will be a few, but I'll ask someone else to do all the trends and stuff like Soundgasm, I can't remember all of them.

And the name of the different parts of the forum will of course be the name of areas and towns.

All of all will probably end up like Allovaal or something of the kind.
Junk bin= Junkenbint

Well, you get the point right?
I'll ask someone to do it for me though... I'm too uncreative at the moment.

::::::::::::::::::::::::::

And there you have it. All that is done at the moment. Will need some dungeons and stuff to though.
And perhaps some more events along the way. But this is the red line that the story follows.

As I hope you've noticed, the story is barely based on the real events of charas. Call it a dramatization if you like.
That's probably as close as you can get.
The characters will more or less just be the names, because trying to base them on the members would take far too long time and might
make some people unpleased. So most members will be generic and barely speak up. I'll try a bit harder on the mods though.

I never felt that Ghostclown or carmen where evil or fanatic or anything of the kind, I just needed one of the few things that are actually remembered throughout our lovely community.

And I really don't know the reason for Warxe deleting the all of all board. But once more; that's one of the few spectacular things
that ever happened.

As for charasman as well(I hope that's his name) who got his account hacked by raffie. Just another thing for the plot.

I do hope none will be offended by this thing though.
It's pretty long. Me and Lucas brainstormed this some time ago.

The Charas Game:
Much like the first idea. But this time I want all members to be in, like our current members. Most of the people who were around for the more historical moments are unfortunately not around here anymore.
So this game would be about the active members.(Active members= a list I wrote during this election. Mostly the people who voted in the voting thread though.)

This game will either start with a new member joining. I have two ideas for this then.
1. The member remains fictional and as quiet as Cloud.
2. You can choose from a long list of members who you want to be. The corresponding NPC/Party member in the world will then disappear.

I'll hope to be able to have a party change system in this because of all the members but also intend to separate the party at some times so you actually have to play with other characters than those 4 strongest ones.

The actual story is open for suggestions though, I'm keeping this version as open as possible as I made the other charas game so strict.
Medieval game:
Classic RPG setting. Swords and spells.

The current medieval game I've thought about is about a boy who travels across the world and finds all kinds of grand adventures in his way.
The game starts in a small village where everyone is working hard to make a delivery. All the goods are going on a ship and consists of armours, weapons, food, clothes, potions ect. No one in the village except the Mayor knows who's getting it and he won't speak.
Our protagonist is the son of the town's smith. He's learning the profession and is quite foolhardy.
But one of the area's local Outlaw bands decides to mess with the smith and refuse paying for their weapons just before the ship arrives. The hero decides to retake the gear and keep them off. He succeeds at getting the things back but his heroic act backfires as the Outlaws barge into
their home at night and force the smith to come with them to their hideout.
The hero fights for his family but things doesn't go as well as intended. His mother have to make a great sacrifice in the end and things are not as easy as it seems.

The first part of the game will end when the protagonist leaves town.
Sci-fi game:
Science fiction is much like fantasy. Difference is that science fiction is more about technology and science.

We have this huge universe(of course) and the world most people originated from has been left for some time.
The protagonist is the son of a pilot(or some kind of businessman) and is this huge cruiser heading from one planet to the next.
The people on the ship are refugees from their planet.
A planet now torn with war as the religious and political leaders fight over power after the death of their former leader.
But space is not a safe place when your planet's military is busy fighting.
The cruiser is invaded with stealth and the "pirates" disguise themselves as refugees and lives among the people long enough to seize control of the ship without anyone's notice.
The people remain oblivious at first but begins to doubt what's going on after their course is dramatic changed.

The rest is really open to be honest. I'm all for ideas.
Postapocalyptic game.
I know you love these.

The bible mentioned some good lines there in the last part.
The four knights of apocalypse.
Famine, Pestilence, War(Chaos) and Death. Each representing the crap that will come when the world falls.

And that's pretty much what I got on this game. The game will be about those 4 things. Exactly how and when they come to light is something we will have to decide ourselves.
Starvation will follow when the grains wither and the cattle dies. Pestilence will break out when people no longer have medicine and drugs, also the varying conditions of life will affect this and some new diseases.
War and chaos will come as people fight for what little there is left. They will be brought together but their opinions will wary too much to keep peace for a longer time.
Death is one of the certainties when it comes to apocalypses. People will die. And there is nothing to do about it.
NEW: Steampunk
I don't have anything at the moment but I'll explain it instead.

The style of Steampunk takes place sometimes before 1930. The technology shouldn't pass that time limit.
Guns and such exists, some old school aircraft and so on. Movies that got this kind of genre(like, hollywood movies.) are Wild wild west and "League of extraordinary gentlemen".
The oldest book among this genre is probably "Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea" or so.
Games are like "Arcanum(sp?)". In fact I don't know of any beside that.  I still think that FF9 is kinda Steampunk. But a bit too fantasy perhaps as all characters use melee weapons and no real guns appears in it. Lots of airships, the architecture and such though.
As far as manga/anime goes. There's a lot to find, but I don't know any names.

Things that shouldn't appear: plastic, composite and and carbon fibre. No synthetic materials in clothing either. And so on.
Things that are promoted: Copper, bronze, brass, mercury, vacuum tubes, screws, cogs ect.

If anyone disagrees with what I wrote:
Please tell me so.
I have this feeling that this could be explained a lot better by someone who actually got that burning passion for this.

One person did so. Many thanks to Gemini.

More ideas of SP

   The anime Steamboy is a good reference

Basically, look at cyberpunk.
Now replace the future and cyber aspects of it, with "industrial revolution era" and "Steam powered machines"
In steampunk there is an abundance of large, steam-powered machines that sometimes perform silly little tasks (Back to the future 3, docs Ice machine for instance) or awesome flying zepplins, or mechanical monsgtrosities powere by steam and coal. Generally, people conduct themselves in an old fasioned manner, using proper victorian english, but many of the player achetypes found in cyberpunk are present. You still have your whores, and assholes, and outcasts, and tyrants. Everyone seems to wear some sort of mechanical apparatus, sometimes goggles, sometimes robotic body parts.Most of the more recent RPGs fro FF6 onward have adopted some aspect of steampunk into their visual imagry. Youll see a lot of clock gears and intricate machines. Everything from crono-trigger to FF1 to WoW has stolen some of its best materials from steampunk. Because is ****ing badass as hell.
My discription is poor and sloppy. DO yourself a favour and at least image search some steampunk stuff. there are groups of people who as a hobby craft things like Steampunk PCs, Cars, Watches, Clothing and other awesome stuff. Steampunk taxidermy is rad too.
And thanks to Red Giant who put some light on the blurry things i wrote.
Quote from: Red Giant on April 21, 2009, 09:01:01 PM
I think that steampunk would be both restricting and somewhat arbitrary in this context. It's just not open enough for everyone to make very unique contributions.

That isn't to say that elements of steampunk can't be worked into the other themes, or that it isn't awesome. I just don't think it would hold up as the root theme.

EDIT: Also, the central point of steampunk is that the technology does surpass that of the 1930's, but with the same visual and mechanical themes, e.g. steam powered planes and the like.
And that's that.
I'm open for all kinds of suggestion. But I'll leave most stories incomplete and such until the decision has been made.

Read well and make your choice.

And for those who don't know what a chaingame is. Lucas made it quite clear.
Quote from: lucas_irineu on April 20, 2009, 04:36:56 PM
Its like, everyone signs up. Then, one people makes one chapter. Then the next person makes another chapter, and so on, and when everyone does it, all the members take a look at it, fix bugs and release it.
And with that. Everyone takes part and works on this.

I guess voting stops on monday. One week from now.

Voting is over and things are set. Check later for the new thread.

Our newer members would be in the last parts of the Charas history game actually. And anyone can add more parts/ edit anything they want in that one. But I'd like to have most of those events in the game.

I vote for the Charas game, on account I want a Charas game, but I don't want it to be about a bunch of crazy people I've never heard of. If I want a history lesson, I'll read the wiki.

What's a chain game, anyway? The name makes me think it gets passed on from member to member, who adds his or her own stuff to it for a while and passes it on until complete.

Oh, that sounds megafun. On second thought, it doesn't really matter if it's a Charas game then, since everyone adding their own stamp to it will make it Charas enough. Postapocalyptic and scifi both sound like they'd provide much funny.

Red Fox is the father of the chaingame.
He started the Charas Chain game some time back.
Therefore. This is the Mayoral Chain game to avoid confusion.

A chain game is a lot like RP. But you make a game instead.

Each member on the list made their chapter and it was done in the Charas chain game. I think Red Fox put a set number of chapters before start.
-------------------------------------------

The thing about chaingames is that each person work with their own part.
So you you just give every member of the "team" the basic plot(like, where the story starts and probably ends) and the rest is up to the makers at the moment. So instead of having all these story writers and charsetmakers: you all do your part.

Of course, you can always change sprites whenever you want by sending them to the perosn working on it currently.
Like monster sprites. Say you used the RTP for your part. Then you remember that it's a bit crud afterwards when MEMBER X gets it to do the next chapter. So you make a monster for it and sends it to MEMBER X and asks him to add it for example.

Now, I'm not saying that you have to do every resource yourself. You can ask others to do it for you. But it's important that you finish your chapter so the next person can continue and the game to finish.
