RPG VX ABS
« on: January 16, 2010, 06:31:17 PM »
Can anyone tell me how to set up an easy, yet fairly decent ABS for RPG VX? I'm planing of working on a game for that system since RPG 2k3 wouldn't have the graphics I desired.

No clue. Haven't even tried VX. After all, VX is just XP but with cooler RTP?

Different battle system, and more advanced scripting. Still awful though.

XP is goofy looking, but VX is more square than Kyoob.

Events work. That should be plenty good. Does anyone have a basic set up with events or a picture that I can work off? Even an explanation. NOTE: VX is on my computer, this one's on the other side of the house, so if you could make it simple as possible that would also help, but don't leave out details that're important.

Is anyone actually gonna answer the question?
Look for a script with google. Type in "RMVX ABS Script"

Yeah there's PLENTY of AWESOME abs scripts out there. Some that make me want to make games like crazy but it's not the point.

No.  Any decent battle system is going to take a lot of work.  If you want an easy ABS, you're using the wrong program; RPG Maker makes it easy to make RPGs.  Maybe you should check out a program called Game Maker. :)

You obviously haven't seen some ABS out there. More over the ABS out there with additional event scripting.

Well, I'd much rather make battle systems from scratch.  I suppose there are resources to make these sorts of things easy. :P

But where's the fun in that?

I have a theory: If someone already did something you want to use, and they allow to use it, why not use it? The whole do it yourself things is almost ludicrous. I understand that self-made can make you feel better and in terms is best for tighting up your skills, however companies bring programmers together so they can share/create something, all whilst in supervision. I say it's almost the same process as if I use someone's script and revise it, and modify it to make it my own. I have done this with over 20 scripts and achieved very impressive results. I am all for original scratch-made stuff, as an artist i support it ten fold. As an  intermediate scripter only at the moment I am able to modify extensively, but there's nothing wrong with that. Specially if I am achieving the result I wanted or more.

Of course this is all non-commercially speaking.

Besides I already did ABSes and  CMSes from scratch by myself.

I think the idea here is we're not just programmers being told to do a job; we're game designers with a vision. Creating something completely from scratch ensures that you have full 100% control over how it works in every aspect. If you take someone else's work it will never be quite right and modifying some of those scripts without being the original creator can be maddeningly confusing.
